Circulation/Readers Services
The Circulation/Readers Services overseas the operation of the services that concerns the information needs of the library clients. It implements the policies and procedures that govern the circulation and maintenance of the general circulation collections, general reference, serials/periodicals and other areas concern. The following programs and services offered are :
o Processing of library materials being borrowed and returned by the library users
o Issuance of clearance
o Preparation of overdue notices for library borrowers
o Preparation of statistics of library users
o Gives instruction on the use of library and different information sources and search tools
o Assists users in the selection of books and other information sources on a given topic
o Instructs library user in identifying and locating needed resources
Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
The OPAC is the online searchable database of bibliographic records of library resources. It is used for easy access and quick retrieval of library resources available to the clients.
Technical Service
The Technical Service performs the following activities such as book selection and acquisition, ordering and purchasing, collating, labelling, cataloging and classification, indexing, constitutes the technical services of the library which are considered an essential element for the effective and efficient library service. The main task of this section is to process all the newly acquired materials to make them available for circulation use.
It also facilitates the encoding and updating of catalog entries in the library’s online catalog and authority file.
Library Gift and Exchange Program
The DOLE Library accepts books and other reading materials as gifts but will be added to the collection only after the items have been evaluated to determine if the item meet the collection development requirements. Gift materials that are not added are donated to other libraries requested for book donations.
The Library also maintains exchange program with other institutions as part of its acquisition strategy. An exchange program is a means of the library to beef up its library collections, whereby copies of reading materials published by DOLE offices are exchanged with other library or institutions for their publications. Materials received on exchange are selected/evaluated for inclusion in the collection in accordance with the collection development policy.
Inter-library Loan Services
This service is provided to DOLE personnel if the library does not hold some of the needed library materials. The librarian may borrow the materials needed from partnered library (Intramuros Library Consortium) through the inter-library loan subject to their rules and regulations.
Current Awareness
Current awareness service is provided to ensure that library clients are kept up-to date with information on their interests or subject areas. For this, the library provides the Quarterly Library Bulletin re: Resources @ Your Library which is disseminated every quarter to the different offices in the DOLE central office and updating monthly the Library Bulletin Board Display.
Research Assistance Service
This kind of service is provided to DOLE library clients who need help in searching, finding materials/information on the shelves or through internet for their researches. This service is given upon request.
Information and Referrals
Librarians usually have mutual agreements in referring their clients to other libraries. Consequently, if DOLE employees who wish to access other libraries' collections, facilities, and information sources may coordinate with the Library for issuance of a referral letter.
The DOLE Library also refers outside researchers to appropriate sources of information and data in other DOLE offices, libraries and agencies.
